Applying to the NMSU CD Graduate Program
Thank you for your interest in the Communication Disorders (CD) Master’s Program at New Mexico State University. We understand that choosing an institution for graduate studies is a daunting decision. We hope that you will give our program at NMSU strong consideration.
Our medium-sized, student-centered program offers academic coursework and clinical experiences that fully meet ASHA's academic program accreditation requirements. Our goal is to facilitate the development of your critical thinking, problem solving, and clinical decision making to ensure your success in our profession. We believe that our program offers a breadth and depth of academic and clinical experiences that will serve you well throughout your careers. Highlights of our program include:
- Opportunities to gain experience in the area of autism in our Autism Diagnostic Center, as well as the opportunity to obtain a graduate certificate in autism
- Coursework and practicum in pediatric speech and language disorders
- Clinical practicum opportunities to work with culturally and linguistically diverse clients and families
- Coursework and practicum in adult neurogenic communication disorders as well as dysphagia
- Opportunities to conduct clinical research and to participate in faculty research
Information about the Application Process
- All applications to our graduate program - traditional and leveling program - need to be submitted via CSDCAS
- Application Deadlines:
February 1st of each year for the Traditional Program & May 15 of each year for the Leveling Program
What to submit to :
- Letter of Intent/Personal Statement
- Resume
- (Unofficial) Transcript
- GRE Scores (optional for applicants to the traditional program, required for leveling applicants)
- Names & email addresses of two references who can speak to your potential as graduate student
3. The departmental Admissions Committee will review applications in February and send out invitations for interviews to those applicants who are being considered for admission.
4. Letters of acceptance as well as information on waitlisting are emailed in early to mid March.
5. If you accept our offer to join the CD graduate program at NMSU, you need to respond by April 15, otherwise you forfit your place in our graduate program and it will be offered to waitlisted applicants.
6. If you were waitlisted, you will be notified after April 15 about whether an opening became available for you.
7. We will invite applicants who were waitlisted until all openings are filled.

Admission Requirements
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- TOEFL test scores for non-native speakers of English who have received their prior degree from an international university
- Application Fee: Information on CSDCAS application fees as well as information on fee waivers is available on the CSDCAS website. Upon acceptance, you will be required to pay fees (approximately $300 in 2024/25) associated with your clinical training and clinical clock hour tracking.
