- If you are a parent that suspects a child or youth has signs of autism, your first step is sharing concerns with a pediatrician or early intervention specialists. They can administer a brief autism screener. If there are moderate or high markers that indicate a possibility of autism, then the medical provider can provide a professional referral to the Autism Diagnostic Center for a formal autism evaluation. The ADC will then reach out to families and inform them about the next steps in the process.
